History
Grand Master Thomas
Amos granted a dispensation for Fairweather Lodge in Tacoma on October
1, 1889 to Warren F. Harris and 11 others. It was chartered by Grand
Lodge as number 82 on June 15, 1892.
It was named for
William A. Fairweather, a leading Mason in the state for half a century.
He came to Tacoma in its earliest days in 1874 and entered the
mercantile business. He moved to Sprague in 1886,and returned to Tacoma
in 1889 and was an honorary member of Fairweather 82 for 55 years. He
was elected Grand Master in 1889 at the age of 36 and died at the age of
88, having been a mason for 64 years. He was one of only two living men
who had Lodges named for them. Fairweather Lodge was know as the
“Railroaders lodge” and its first master and eight of it first masters
were Northern Pacific employees.
In December 1997,
Fairweather No. 82 consolidated with Destiny No. 197 and continued as
Fairweather No. 82. Destiny was granted dispensation on June 17, 1912 by
Grand Master Frank N. McCandless with 104 signers and was chartered on
September 29, 1913. By 1919, its membership was 698 Master Masons.
